The Force Awakens on Planet Mustafar for an action packed battle surrounding Darth Vader's Castle. Set the scene for creative play with this LEGO Star Wars building kit, allowing children to create their own battle journey with classic Star Wars Character Darth Vader. This construction toy of Vader’s menacing-looking fortress features lots of building bricks and lots of great details, including a brick-built lava flow, an underground hangar with mouse droid and docking station, ancient Sith shrine with holocron, racks for extra ammunition, and secret compartments hiding more Sith relics. The hangar also houses a buildable Darth Vader's TIE Fighter model with stud shooters and space to sit the Star Wars Darth Vader figure. There’s also a bacta tank, Darth Vader’s meditation chamber with holographic communication unit, and a meeting platform at the top with a defensive stud-shooter cannon.
I recently heard good things about this set, so I decided to get it and see what was so great about it. This set is an "Amazon Exclusive" so you can only get it from Amazon or Lego themselves, unless you but it secondhand. The build took roughly 2.5 hours at a casual pace, and when I finished, It looked pretty cool. The minifigures in the set included Darth Vader, which had nothing new or exclusive about it, but it was nice to get him. The set also included 2 royal guards, which were not new, but a nice inclusion as well. The imperial Transport Pilot is new and exclusive to this set with great printing, but you do not see this character in any of the Star Wars movies. BACTA TANK DARTH VADER. this, in my opinion is the highlight minifigures of the set. His legs have dual-molded printing, and looks awesome. The set also includes a Mouse Droid which is nice to get. The castle itself is seen in Rouge One, and will also be seen in the new Darth Vader VR experience. The front has a cool lava flow and great trans-red pieces for an ominous feel to the castle. The back of the castle is open, so you can easily access the interior. On the bottom level, which is supposed to be "underground" there is a hanger for Darth Vader's Tie Advanced, and on the right side, has a docking station for the Mouse Droid and some racks that hold ammo for the Tie Advanced. There is also a little hidden feature where you can move part of the rock formation ro reveal as red kyber crystal. On the other side, there is a sith shrine with a holocron element. It also has 2 all black microfigures on each side of it, which are cool. There is also the same feature where you can move part of the rock formation to reveal a lightsaber hilt. AMD the second level, or the "ground level" there is Darth Vader's Bacta Tank that can easily be removed to put Bacta Tank Darth Vader in it. There is also a control pad on the left, and an opening door for Darth Vader to walk out on the right. There is enough space on this floor to fit the two royal guards on this level. Because this set has a triangle facade to it, the third level has less floor space than the lower two levels. This level has Darth Vader's meditation chamber, which is nice, but does not close in the "teeth" motion that the one in the movie does. Instead, the top part of it just sits on top of the bottom part and it has gaps that do not look good. The level also features a hologram of Emperor Palpatine, which is the same one we have gotten for the past couple of years, and a lightsaber holder. The top level is supposed to be a scaled down version of the scene with Darth Vader and Director Krennic from Rogue One, although Director Krennic is not included. The level Also has a stud shooter turret on a ball joint so it can swivel, which it think is a nice and practical inclusion. The set also features Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, which is different than the one in the Death Star set, and has just enough space for Darth Vader, and also has two stud shooters. Final verdict - Build - intermediate - 7/10 Minifigures - 5 minifigures - 8.5/10 Play features - 7/10 Display - 8.1/10 Price to volume of stuff you get - good, 6.8/10 The price is a little high, but because it is an Amazon exclusive, you probably will not see it on sale. The minifigures are amazing, but the meditation chamber is in need of modifications. Overall, this is one of the better building-based sets, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the Lego designers do next time.
The box comes on the porch with LEGO printed on every corner, and a sticker saying “darth vader castle.” 5 stars because he’s going to love it I’m sure but if I could give low stars to Amazon I would! seriously!
Our son loves this set, but buyers should know that this product is not shipped in a box. The shipping labels are put directly on the Lego box. This is a problem if you like to keep your boxes, if your box is left unattended on a porch for all to see, or if it's a gift. If I had wanted to give this as a gift, I'd be very disappointed, as it has labels that are really stuck on, and our apt number was written on it in several places with a Sharpie by our building staff.
My 10 year olddaughter bought this with her own money. She was able to build it fairly easily. But had issues about 3/4 the way through. So she took a break and rebuilt it with my husband. The panels keep coming off the base because the hinge areas are too small. They are going to try and come up with a fix so that she can play with it as she is very imaginative with her toys.
My son (7 years old) loves Darth Vader, and we are both huge Star Wars Lego fans. We always get a Lego Star Wars set for Christmas and birthdays, but this is the largest set we ever got. We had a great time building it. We took our time, but it takes about 4 hours to build. If you love Star Wars, or intricate and detailed Lego sets, this set is for you.
This was one of my son's favorite Christmas presents this year. He is nine, and while it took him a couple hours, he was able to assemble it himself. It id incredibly detailed, featuring several small details that make play more fun. It is quite tall, so storage could be an issue, but the construction is sturdy, makinf it easy to move.
This is an Amazon exclusive product. It was at the top of my son’s Christmas list.
A fun build of Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar. I like the lava cascading down from the castle. Just that little touch adds a lot of flare to this model. It has an underground hanger for Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter. As small as it is, I was quite surprised that the minifigure fit inside the cockpit. I do wish the window was clear on the Tie Fighter. It comes with two stud shooters on the Tie Fighter. It has some hidden compartments for ancient Sith Relics. The Bacta Tank was a nice touch. My favorite part is Darth Vader’s meditation chamber with the holographic communication unit. There’s a stud shooter cannon on top to take down anyone who dares trespass. I think this is an enjoyable kit for all ages and a great addition to anyone’s collection.
